The Apostle John ended the first major section of his letter by exhorting his readers to remain in God. In order to do so, we must look forward to Christ’s second coming and we must also look backward to Christ’s first coming. His second coming motivates us to participate in the process of sanctification in the present while His first coming reminds us how far His death on the cross has brought us from our helpless and sinful life.
As we kicked off our new sermon series, we looked at three issues John was dealing with, four reasons why he wrote the book and the singular purpose for this letter to be written.
Why do we put up Christmas light during Christmas? We live in a dark and broken world. But God sent His own son Jesus Christ as the Light of the world. He became the light that we all need and are looking for. When we have Jesus in our lives, we can be right with God, others and ourselves.
